I IN Transforms 1993 Tokyo Building into Andersson Bell Flagship with Bold Color Gradient

architecture-design · 2026-09-22

In the Aoyama district of Tokyo, the local studio I IN has unveiled the flagship store for the fashion label Andersson Bell, situated within a 1993 structure featuring an exposed concrete interior. The design, spearheaded by I IN co-founders Yohei Terui and Hiromu Yuyama, showcases a striking color gradient over three levels: vibrant red on the ground floor, transitioning to orange, and culminating in yellow on the upper floors. This vivid palette contrasts with the board-marked concrete, which Terui describes as adding a "strong modern layer" that enhances the existing architecture. The 309-square-metre space includes custom-made furniture by the studio, glossy surfaces, and a glass floor, creating a cohesive experience that reflects the brand's identity of 'contrast.' Photography credits go to Tomooki Kengaku.
