Hypha Studios opens major temporary venue near Tate Modern

Hypha Studios, a charity that transforms vacant buildings into art spaces, will open Hypha Gallery South Bank on 25 June in a former office building on Southwark Bridge Road, London. The venue spans nearly 800 sq. m of galleries and over 400 sq. m of studio space, inspired by the Palais de Tokyo by Lacaton & Vassal architects. It will feature three galleries, a project space, studios, and a showroom for Hypha Curates. The space will support an estimated 600 artists over the next year in partnership with developer HUB and Bridge Fund Management. Studio spaces will be occupied by 17 artists from the new collective Lobby, who were selected via open call. Inaugural exhibitions include a sculpture show titled Bridging the Gap, site-specific works, and an immersive sound installation. Interim managing director Will Jennings noted that the space may continue beyond a year depending on external factors. Since 2021, Hypha Studios has converted about 70 vacant properties across the UK, supporting over 2,100 artists.
