Hugo Rocci's Paintings Highlight Overlooked Everyday Objects

Amsterdam-based artist Hugo Rocci creates paintings that focus on ordinary tools and items, transforming them into studies of color and form. His recent series features paint brushes as an homage to their aesthetic qualities, inspired by a visit to Pigment shop in Tokyo. Rocci, who grew up in southern France and studied at Gerrit Rietveld Academie, collects objects like brushes, wooden rules, and honey bears, incorporating them into his work. His artistic process involves sketching, using cotton-linen canvases, and applying pigments from De Kat windmill in Zaandam mixed with casein, sometimes enhanced with oil paint. Currently developing a collection on kitchen appliances after a trip to South Korea, Rocci aims to encourage viewers to notice the subtle beauty in everyday items through his detailed, framed perspectives.
