Howard Carr Recalls Salvador Dalí Encounters in Cadaqués and Port Lligat as Milan Show Explores Dalí and Fashion

exhibition · 2026-09-27

In 1947, Howard R. Carr was born and later encountered Salvador Dalí in London in 1970. Impressed by Carr's sketchbook, Dalí extended an invitation to his residence. The following year, in 1971, Carr visited Dalí in Cadaqués and, in 1972, journeyed through Europe and Morocco alongside Kim Waters and Chris Murray, who established Govinda Gallery in 1975. Their evenings were often spent at Dalí's Port Lligat home, where a butler welcomed them with a note for Dalí and a large taxidermied bear at the door. Carr showcased his work at Govinda Gallery several times, receiving significant acclaim in 1984 and 1998. He remains active in his Georgetown studio. This narrative aligns with "Dalí e la Moda" at Palazzo Reale in Milan, running until January 31, 2027.
