House in Pituba: Synthesis of Portuguese and Brazilian Architecture

House in Pituba, a coastal residence in Brazil designed by Vasco Lima Mayer and Nuno Nascimento, embodies a serene coastal dwelling that merges Portuguese solidity with Brazilian tropical openness. Located two hours from Maceió, the house does not impose on the landscape but adapts with precise, restrained architecture attentive to climate, scale, and materiality. The project arises from the encounter of two architectural traditions: Portuguese compact volumes and controlled openings, and Brazilian horizontality, large roof planes, and open exterior relations. The interior features a continuous living space where living room, dining room, and terrace read as a single habitable field, unified by a ceiling plane that guides gradual transition from shelter to openness. The material palette draws from the local soil of Pituba, with warm tones anchoring the house to the site. Low-line furniture defines zones without interrupting views toward the horizon. A single curved pool at the project's edge introduces fluid movement, recalling Oscar Niemeyer's spatial sensibility without literal citation. The house is a synthesis between Portugal and Brazil, between matter and horizon, finding a way to belong.
