Hotel Lucile: A Reborn Church in Silver Lake with Divine Restaurant

Hotel Lucile, the sixth establishment of the California-based boutique hotel group Casetta, has emerged from a 1931 church in Silver Lake, Los Angeles. Originally known as Bethany Presbyterian and designed by architect Scott Quintin in the Romanesque Revival style, the building had remained unoccupied for nearly ten years. The renovation, led by Electric Bowery's Lucia Bartholomew and Cayley Lambur, retains features such as stained glass windows, vaulted ceilings, and wooden beams. The hotel's restaurant, Sous Sous, is situated in the church's nave and showcases murals by Erin Lynn Welsh, including one inspired by Elysian Park's flora and another referencing Eaton Canyon, which suffered a wildfire in January 2025. Chef Patrick Costa and bar director Lee Zaremba offer a menu that fuses Southern French cuisine with Deep South influences. The hotel boasts 25 guest rooms adorned with Parachute linens, Aesop amenities, and curated art from Rhett Baruch Gallery. The Lucile Suite (room 106) includes a private courtyard, while the rooftop deck presents sweeping views, complemented by a discreet pool located below street level.
