Hotel Hans Opens in Copenhagen, Blending Local Heritage with Contemporary Design

Hotel Hans, a new addition to the family-run Brøchner Hotels group, has opened between Copenhagen's Nørrebro and Frederiksberg neighborhoods. Named after patriarch Hans Brøchner, who co-founded the group's first hotel in the 1980s, the hotel occupies a historic red-brick building designed by Emil Blichfeldt, the architect of Tivoli Gardens. The interior, designed by Norrøn Architects, features a lobby with large windows inspired by Edward Hopper's 'Nighthawks', grey terrazzo floors, bespoke metal lighting echoing Nørrebro's streetlamps, and furniture by Ari Prasetya and Carl Hansen. Graphic neon portraits of Hans by his granddaughter Laura Brøchner illuminate the windows, and Danish designers Pettersen & Hein created sculptures from materials found in Hans's former workshop. The 91 rooms and suites feature dark green ceilings, sage-green walls, and Ege Carpets, with some offering balconies or roof terraces. Guests can enjoy a Nordic breakfast buffet, complimentary house wine from 5-6 pm, and complimentary cocktails from 9-10 pm. The hotel's location reflects a more affordable price point compared to Brøchner's city center properties.
