Hotel Corduroy Opens in Montauk, Reimagining a 1983 Motel

Blue Flag Capital has transformed the former Sunset Montauk motel into Hotel Corduroy, a 29-room property on Montauk's northern harbor. The hospitality group's first New York hotel follows acclaimed properties on Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard. Workshop/APD preserved the three low-slung buildings with light exterior updates, while New York firm Ward + Gray designed interiors inspired by Montauk's surfing heritage, commercial fishing culture, and rugged shoreline. The lobby evokes a 1990s coastal home with midcentury shelving, art books, and a Matt Albiani photograph. Guest rooms feature handcrafted furniture, grasscloth wallcoverings, and marine-style bulkhead lights. Breezeways are furnished as gathering spaces. Blue Flag co-founder Brad Guidi emphasized the hotel as a relaxed home base rather than a dining and nightlife destination. Ward + Gray co-founder Staver Gray noted the motel structure encourages communal experiences true to Montauk. Nearby dining includes The Crow's Nest and Duryea's Lobster Deck.
