Hong Kong as a Financial Hub for Kazakhstan's Ambitions
Kazakhstan aims to broaden its financial alliances and strengthen its relationship with China, with Hong Kong recognized as a significant partner. On June 3, President Tokayev engaged with Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides to discuss potential collaborations in fintech and maritime logistics. Additionally, Hong Kong Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu visited Astana, where he met with President Tokayev, Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov, and Deputy Prime Minister Serik Zhumangarin. Lee emphasized that Kazakhstan could act as a bridge for Hong Kong to access Central Asia, while Hong Kong could serve as Central Asia's gateway to East and Southeast Asia.
