Hiren Patel Architects + Design completes rammed-earth home with sand from four regions near Ahmedabad

Hiren Patel Architects + Design (HPAD) has finalized the construction of A House Born of Four Soils, a 790-square-metre home situated near Ahmedabad, India. The residence showcases rammed-earth walls crafted from sand sourced from four distinct regions, forming what the principal architect, Hiren Patel, describes as a "geological canvas." The clients aimed for a material selection deeply connected to India, incorporating local stone, lime plaster, and teak. The design features low-profile volumes encircling a central courtyard, ensuring all rooms open to this communal area. An entrance plaza with a wooden canopy leads to the home, while the main suite is discreetly positioned to the northwest, accompanied by gardens, a garage, and a guest annexe.
