Herman Miller Aeron chair gets bold new colors and sustainability updates

Herman Miller has unveiled the most substantial enhancement to its renowned Aeron office chair in over thirty years, featuring two fresh color options, innovative materials, and improved size inclusivity. The new shades include 'Jasper', a warm olive inspired by biophilic design, and 'Nightfall', a rich midnight blue. Material advancements now ensure a uniform color across the frame and Pellicle suspension mesh, a first for this chair. The aluminum base has been reengineered using generative tools, cutting weight by almost two pounds while ensuring strength. Increased incorporation of post-industrial recycled materials and bio-based nylons is projected to lower the chair's global average embodied carbon footprint by 12 percent, as stated by Gabe Wing, vice president of sustainability at MillerKnoll. Joseph White, director of design strategy at MillerKnoll, emphasized that strategic color application can enhance workplace engagement and productivity. The ergonomic features, including PostureFit SL, Harmonic 2 Tilt, and 8Z Pellicle technologies, remain intact. Since its introduction in 1994, over nine million Aeron chairs have been sold, with a replacement rate of only 0.055 percent. The revamped chair is set to launch at Fulton Market Design Days in Chicago from June 8-10, 2026.
