Helsinki Design Week 2026: Aalto, Futuro, and New Collaborations
Scheduled for September 6, 2026, Helsinki Design Week (HDW) will embrace the theme “The Oncoming Other,” emphasizing collaboration. Founder Kari Korkman underscores the significance of fostering connections within the creative community. The festival will feature interactive “meeting spots,” including the Open Studios program, which incorporates a scavenger hunt for up-and-coming designers. Notable attractions include custom tiled tables by Heij in Eiranpuisto and four days of discussions on street-level spaces hosted by HDW Lab, alongside chef Sami Tallberg’s Wild Mushroom Bar. The Architecture & Design Museum Helsinki will unveil its new satellite building, Eteläranta 6. Additionally, Iittala and Hydro will commemorate Alvar Aalto’s vase anniversary with a low-carbon aluminum version, while Marimekko will present Matti Suuronen’s Futuro House. The Waldorf Astoria Helsinki will debut neo-Renaissance accommodations and a new dining venue, Varjo.
