Helsinki Biennial 2025: Shelter theme and 37 artists announced

The third Helsinki Biennial, titled 'Shelter: Below and beyond, becoming and belonging', will run from 8 June to 21 September 2025. Curated by Blanca de la Torre and Kati Kivinen, the biennial takes inspiration from Vallisaari island's protected habitats. It reimagines shelter as a nurturing space for all life forms. The final list includes 37 artists and collectives, such as Olafur Eliasson, Ernesto Neto, Otobong Nkanga, Yayoi Kusama, and Giuseppe Penone. Venues include Vallisaari island, HAM Helsinki Art Museum, and for the first time, Esplanade Park.
