Helene Bailly Marcilhac's 'The Seventies' Surveys a Decade of Artistic Reinvention

The Paris-based gallery Helene Bailly Marcilhac presents 'The Seventies,' a summer group show examining the radical artistic transformations of the 1970s. The exhibition features works by Jean-Paul Riopelle, Hans Hartung, Chu Teh-Chun, Joan Miró, Sam Francis, Sonia Delaunay, Pablo Picasso, and Marc Chagall, among others. Riopelle, a key figure in Canadian art and a signatory of the Refus Global manifesto, is represented by his signature 'mosaic' works executed with a palette knife, challenging boundaries between painting and sculpture. Hartung's gestural abstractions and Chu Teh-Chun's fusion of Eastern and Western traditions highlight a transformation of earlier modernist movements. The show also explores radical color experimentation through works by Miró, Francis, and Delaunay. Late works by Picasso and Chagall demonstrate their continued engagement with artistic progress.
