Helena Lund Ek Explores Pregnancy Through Painting at Luleå Konsthall

At Luleå Konsthall, Helena Lund Ek showcases a long-term project that investigates the interplay between painting and pregnancy. Over the course of four years, she has utilized both physical and spiritual experiences as materials for three distinct series that delve into the existential, societal, corporeal, and transcendental dimensions of pregnancy. The exhibition occupies three separate halls, with each space dedicated to a series that intertwines the painting process with the human experience of pregnancy. Lund Ek highlights the political implications of pregnancy, emphasizing how societal norms and authorities have historically imposed frameworks and moral expectations on expectant women. Her works oscillate between the abstract and the articulate, the imaginative and the bold, as well as the sublime and the politically charged.
