Heinz Mack at 95: Zero Movement Co-Founder Maintains Rigorous Studio Practice in Ibiza and Germany

Heinz Mack, a 95-year-old artist from Germany, upholds a rigorous studio routine, dedicating three hours each day to his work in studios located in Ibiza and Mönchengladbach. In 1957, he, alongside Otto Piene, established the Zero movement to fill the cultural void in post-war Germany. Mack's artistic journey encompasses various stages: his time as a student, the Zero phase (1957-1966), the creation of relief panels, and a resurgence in painting. His art often investigates light and form, as seen in 'The Sky Over Nine Columns' showcased at the 2014 Venice Biennale. In 1988, he and his wife Ute renovated a traditional finca in Ibiza, which includes a sculpture garden. In 2018, his relief 'Kleiner Urwald' fetched €1.117 million. He signed with Almine Rech and established the Mack Foundation in 2024.
