Heather Agyepong Makes US Debut in 'Shifters'

Heather Agyepong, an actress and visual artist, makes her US theatrical debut in Benedict Lombe's play 'Shifters' at the Cherry Lane Theatre in New York City, running through August 30. The play, directed by Lynette Linton, follows a young Black couple reuniting after eight years apart. Agyepong, who earned an Olivier Award nomination for her role, stars opposite Daniel Ezra. The production previously had a sold-out run at the Bush Theatre in London before transferring to the West End. Agyepong, who also works as a photographer, draws on psychological themes in her art, inspired by Carl Jung, Sigmund Freud, and Søren Kierkegaard. Her photo projects include 'Too Many Blackamoors' and 'ego death', the latter based on Jung's shadow self concept. She began acting at 25 in Theresa Ikoko's 'Girls' at Talawa Theatre Company. Agyepong cites films like 'If Beale Street Could Talk', 'In the Mood for Love', 'Love Jones', and 'Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind' as influences for her role.
