HCD House in Toronto by COMN Architects Blends 1921 Craftsman Facade with Modern Addition
COMN Architects has finalized the HCD House in Toronto, a residence that combines a contemporary addition with a 1921 Craftsman-style home. The clients aimed to maintain the original facade and Craftsman aesthetics. Clarissa Nam, a founding partner, highlighted the harmonious relationship between the historic structure and the new extension. The design showcases the clients' passion for literature and music, incorporating a two-storey library and a dedicated music area. The front features red slate roofing, contrasting with the modern cubic forms at the rear. Within the heritage section, there is a living room and dining area, complemented by a rear solarium. Custom wall paneling and an existing fireplace pay tribute to Craftsman design, fostering a cozy, lived-in atmosphere.
