Hassan Darsi's First French Solo Show at Frac Reims

Moroccan artist Hassan Darsi (born 1961) opens his first solo exhibition in France at Frac Reims, with a simultaneous show at Kunsthalle Mulhouse. The exhibition, titled 'Hassan Darsi. Persistances,' features around ten works including new pieces produced by Frac. Darsi's practice explores the aesthetic and socio-political dimensions of gold through his 'applications dorures' technique. The show includes a video of his site-specific intervention 'Or d'Afrique I' (2008) at a Tenerife seawall and photographs of its reactivation as 'Or d'Afrique II' in Marseille (2012). The installation 'Projet en dérive V' (2026) uses gold leaf on water to create mirage-like surfaces. Curated by Florence Renault-Darsi, Bérénice Saliou, and Sandrine Wymann, the exhibition offers rich textual context but leaves visitors wanting more depth, as most works are extensions of older pieces. Darsi previously had a residency in Charleville-Mézières in 2014 organized by his late assistant Mehryl Levisse.
