Harm's Way Co-Founder and Guitarist Bo Lueders Passes Away at Age 38

Bo Lueders, guitarist and founding member of the Chicago hardcore metal group Harm's Way, has died at 38. The band announced his passing on Thursday via social media, describing their hearts as heavy and broken. No specific cause of death was disclosed, though the band's statement included resources for those experiencing depression or thoughts of self-harm. Lueders was remembered by his bandmates for his consistent kindness and compelling presence both during performances and in everyday life. Born Bohan Daniel Lueders in November 1987, he helped establish Harm's Way in 2006, initially as an offshoot of the punk act Few and the Proud. The project evolved into his main musical focus, resulting in five full-length albums and five EPs. Notable tracks include 'Human Carrying Capacity' and 'Become a Machine.' In 2022, Lueders launched the 'HardLore' podcast with Colin Young of Twitching Tongues, documenting touring life within hardcore, punk, and metal circles. A recent episode featured an interview with Madball vocalist Freddie Crician. In a previous installment, Lueders shared that, facing the end of life, he would wish to hear a Björk song, specifically mentioning 'Unravel' or 'Aurora.' A fundraising effort organized by Young on Friday aims to assist Lueders's mother and partner with memorial and related expenses in Chicago. By Friday afternoon, contributions had approached $140,000.
