Hannah Perry's 'Hard Love' Transforms Brutalist Antwerp Landmark

British artist Hannah Perry presents her first solo exhibition in Belgium, 'Hard Love,' at TICK TACK in Antwerp, on view through 1 August 2026. The show occupies the brutalist De Zonnewijzer building, designed by Léon Stynen in 1955, using four rooms across three floors. Perry treats the raw concrete and glass structure as a collaborator, not a backdrop. Key works include 'Antagonist' (2024), a steel and resin pelvis form previously motorised at BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art, now stilled; 'Rogue Aggregate,' bending rebar into soft loops; and 'Hesitation' and 'Snare,' threading red resin onto rebar. In the basement, 'Reckless Icons' and 'BPM (Thrash)' use subwoofers for visceral sound pieces, while 'FENDER' hangs motorbike parts under red light. An accompanying text by Rosanna McLaughlin frames the exhibition around matrescence—the shattering and rebuilding of self through motherhood. Perry's profile is rising, with inclusion in British Art Show 10. The show reads as a rehearsal for work heading toward structures that hold weight rather than represent it.
