Hannah Buechler Weaves Thousands of Loom Bands and Wool into Painterly Reliefs

Hannah Buechler creates textile reliefs from rubber loom bands that resemble expressionist artworks. Utilizing a felt base as both template and substrate, she weaves the bands onto colored wool tufts, assembling the flexible pieces like puzzle fragments to form various shapes. While the final products maintain their textile flexibility, they acquire a painterly essence when framed and displayed. Buechler's technique reflects her fascination with fabrics and Impressionist mark-making, pushing the limits of textiles by incorporating found and recycled elements, often examining the interplay between natural and synthetic materials. Although the loom band trend from about ten years ago has diminished, Buechler discovered these vibrant rubber bands as a creative medium. Her recent pieces include "Frozen Realm" (2025), "The Space Between" (2024), "Fountains" (2025), "Black Sheep" (2025), and "Don't Push" (2025).
