Handpainted Film Camera Transformed into Gundam-Inspired Artwork

Designer David C W has created a series of unique film cameras inspired by the Japanese anime Gundam. Using the IUTD 'To Be Continued' model from Chinese brand IUTD Studios as a base, each camera undergoes a meticulous handpainting process. The designer disassembles the device, removing components like the viewfinder, shutter, and film roller to create a clean canvas. Four colors are applied in sequence: light gray as a base, followed by blue, yellow, and red, with each layer dried and masked before the next. After painting, components are reassembled by hand, with an orange gel added over the flash to create warm-toned photographs. A hand-sewn fabric strap completes each unit. The initial production consisted of eight cameras, followed by a limited pre-order of ten units available worldwide. Since each piece is individually painted, no two cameras are identical, with variations in edge definition and color density. This project transforms functional photographic equipment into collectible art objects through a labor-intensive customization process.
