Hamburger Kunsthalle Presents Major Survey of Romantic-Era Portrait Miniatures

The Hamburger Kunsthalle in Hamburg is set to present 'FOR YOUR EYES ONLY: Miniatures from the Romantic Era,' its inaugural significant exhibition focused on miniature painting from approximately 1800 to the 1840s. Curated by Sabine Zorn and Dr. Bernd Pappe, the event will take place from February 6 to June 7, 2026. The exhibition showcases over 250 items, featuring 60 miniatures from the Kunsthalle's collection that were restored in 2023–24, alongside 200 pieces on loan. Notable artists include Heinrich Jakob Aldenrath and Bernhard Peter von Rausch. These miniatures, measuring between 6–10 cm, are crafted in watercolor and gouache on ivory. A 160-page catalog will be available for 29 euros, emphasizing Hamburg's emergence as an art hub.
