Gwon Osang Reconstructs Palau de la Música Catalana from Photographs at PS ROY

exhibition · 2026-06-11

Gwon Osang's exhibition, SCULPTURE CENTER 4/4, at PS ROY in Seoul reimagines the gallery's cubic space into a sculptural setting through the use of printed photos mounted on lightweight foam and coated with resin. Titled Inside Deodorant Type, the installation envelops the entire area—ceiling, floor, and three walls—with fragments from the Palau de la Música Catalana in Barcelona, an elaborate concert hall designed by Lluís Domènech i Montaner in 1908. Gwon utilized images from online archives and a VR rendering from Google Maps dating back to the early 2000s, without ever visiting the location. The panels are arranged at unconventional angles, revealing visible seams and exposed foam edges, highlighting the construction process. Accompanying the main piece are three preparatory esquisses that document the project's evolution over two decades. The exhibition is curated by ROY Gallery and will be on display until July 30, 2026. PS ROY, a small project space in Apgujeong, Gangnam, Seoul, is managed by ROY Gallery Seoul. The artwork investigates the relationship between architecture and photography, where structures are perceived as both physical entities and images.
