festival-fair · 2026-04-20

The initial roster of participants for the 2020 Gwangju Biennale has been unveiled by curators Defne Ayas and Natasha Ginwala. The exhibition, titled 'Minds Rising, Spirits Tuning,' will delve into concepts of 'superintelligence' and the 'extended mind.' Scheduled to commence in September 2020, public programming will kick off in October. The curatorial approach examines the nature of organic intelligence, reflecting on both the human brain and the Korean notion of 마음 (ma-eum), which integrates heart and mind. Featured artists include Pacita Abad, Korakrit Arunanondchai, and many others, with more names to be disclosed later. The biennial seeks to explore the limits of human cognition and emotional intelligence through a variety of artistic expressions.
