Guggenheim Bilbao announces 2027 exhibitions: Parreno, Herrera, Japanese women artists

The Guggenheim Museum Bilbao has announced its 2027 exhibition program, which includes the first Spanish solo show of French artist Philippe Parreno (opening mid-March), a major retrospective of Cuban-American abstract pioneer Carmen Herrera (from late April), and "Kaihō 解放: Japanese Women Artists after 1945" (from early October) examining the role of Japanese women artists in Japan and diaspora communities in Asia, Europe, the United States, and Brazil. Two new in situ commissions will feature Korean artist Do Ho Suh (May) and Bilbao-born Itziar Barrio (December). A renewed collection presentation celebrating the museum's 30th anniversary, directed by Miren Arzalluz, will debut in autumn 2027. The museum also reported 517,000 visitors in the first half of 2026, 12% above forecast, with 67% international visitors primarily from France, the UK, and Germany. Its Community program reached 456,901 members. Remaining 2026 exhibitions include Pipilotti Rist's video installation Ever is Over All, a Steve McQueen anthology, Dan Flavin's fluorescent works, and a Zadie Xa in situ project.
