Grupo Primitivo's Vivienda Espiga Uses Timber Frames to Organize Space in Las Condes

architecture-design · 2026-10-20

A 140 m² house and expansion project in Las Condes, Chile, Vivienda Espiga treats structural timber frames as the organizing device of the home rather than as mere support. Grupo Primitivo designed the scheme, with Francisco Guerrero, Sebastian Gutierrez, Hernic Jara and Felipe Lazo listed as lead architects, and Valentina Díaz serving as curator. The project is dated 2026. Mauro Segura shot the photography. Constructora Valarce handled general construction, while structural engineering came from Byron Ronquillo, electrical engineering from Francisco Sonnenburg and additional consultancy from Daniela Orellana. According to the team's project description, the design tests how structure can qualify architectural space, moving beyond a load-bearing role to become the primary articulator of the experience of dwelling. A sequence of wooden structural frames establishes an order that defines routes, links rooms and builds a material identity in which structure, architecture and landscape merge into a single expression. The scheme falls under the categories of houses and expansion.
