Grupo Culata Jovái transforms historic Asunción house into contemporary residence

Grupo Culata Jovái has renovated a historic house in central Asunción, Paraguay, converting it back into a residential dwelling. The project involved integrating spaces and improving building conditions while preserving the original typology. Key interventions included removing accumulated additions from previous uses, enhancing natural light and ventilation, repairing construction where necessary, and reusing demolition materials. The house, known as "Casa Serbia" by its inhabitants, features a "chorizo" layout that recalls traditional living arrangements. The renovation maintains the building's character while adapting it for modern habitation through thoughtful material reuse and spatial reorganization.
