Grupo Culata Jovái Designs Transitional Residence in Asunción Using Traditional Materials

Grupo Culata Jovái designed a residential project in Asunción, Paraguay, on a standard 12×30 meter plot located in a transitional urban zone. The architecture firm employed traditional construction methods and materials, specifically reinforced concrete and brick, as foundational elements. The design process was guided by the young couple who commissioned the home, emphasizing their values of enjoyment, work, sincerity, happiness, and sharing with loved ones. The clients explicitly requested that the architects create the house with pride and according to their professional judgment, presenting a significant challenge to balance architectural vision with client needs. The project explored the boundaries of sufficiency, arguing that luxury is achievable through efficient management of available resources rather than excess. The residence was conceived as a place for peace, rest, and celebration, reflecting the inhabitants' lifestyle without ostentation. Technical drawings including plans, sections, and elevations were produced for the project. The architectural approach focused on serving the future residents rather than the architect's ego, treating the housing program as an exercise in recognition and control.
