Grinch animation cel sells for record $115,900 at Heritage Auctions

Heritage Auctions recently celebrated a significant achievement when a production cel from the beloved 1966 TV special, Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas, sold for an impressive $115,900, setting a new record for the character. This cel was part of their June 19-21 auction, The Art of Everything Cool — Vol. VIII, which generated over $1.73 million in total sales. Across three days, 3,139 bidders competed for 1,289 lots, resulting in a flawless sell-through rate. Furthermore, this auction set a new benchmark as the highest-grossing event for non-Disney, non-Anime Animation Art. Jim Lentz, the Vice President of Animation & Anime at Heritage, noted the immense passion collectors have for their favorite characters.
