Greek Air Force Plane Crash at Athens Flying Week Kills Two Pilots

On Saturday, a Phantom F4 jet from the Greek air force crashed during a low-altitude maneuver at the Athens Flying Week air show, situated near Tanagra airbase, about 60km (40 miles) north of Athens, resulting in the deaths of both pilots. The incident unfolded in front of thousands of spectators, who fortunately reported no injuries. Following the crash, a fire erupted, producing thick black smoke. Rescue efforts to locate the pilots' bodies were initially hindered by the flames. A total of 85 firefighters, along with eleven aircraft for water drops, were deployed to combat the fire, which led to an evacuation order in the vicinity. All remaining events for the weekend were subsequently canceled, and video footage showed the initial smoke followed by a larger explosion as the aircraft disintegrated. The cause of the accident is currently being investigated.
