Greater Dog Architects Transforms Abandoned Substation into Tea Pavilion

Greater Dog Architects has completed the adaptive reuse of a 80 m² brick and concrete structure in Shao Xing Shi, China, transforming a former substation backup room into a public tea pavilion. The project, named 5 X 7, was commissioned by BAISIHAN Goose Down Brand to serve as a stopping point for tourists visiting their factory. The architects, led by Jin XIN and Zhihong HU, employed an adaptive reuse strategy to maximize the existing space and floor height, creating a welcoming environment for the community and visitors. The renovation began in 2021-2022 and was completed in 2023. The design team included Keith Guo, Ray Wang, Ella Tang, and Huge Shen, with consultants JIAYI Construction from Shaoxing. Materials from DECO&DECO and Rheinzink were used. Photographs were taken by Metaviz Studio.
