Gradient House and Studio by Observation Studio in Portland

Observation Studio has completed the Gradient House and Studio, a residential and workspace complex in Portland, Oregon, USA. The project, finished in 2021, transforms a post-war house in the St. Johns neighborhood into a sophisticated compound for a young family with a design business. The design, led by principal architect Christopher Brown with design team Adam Monkaba, Ethan Zagorec Marks, and Thea von Geldern, unites the house and studio under a common roof and material palette, framing a shared patio with views of the St. Johns Bridge, the Willamette River, and the West Hills. The 3600 square foot project was curated by Susanna Moreira and photographed by Jeremy Bittermann. The general contractor was Callum Clark.
