Goldmund's $240,000 Mimesis Statement Preamp Anchors a $1.48 Million System

Goldmund, the Swiss audio manufacturer founded in 1978, has introduced the Mimesis Statement, a flagship analog preamplifier priced at $240,000 in the US. The company hosted a demonstration at its Geneva headquarters, where the unit was heard alongside the Eidos network streamer at $27,000, a pair of Thelos 9800 power amplifiers at $500,000 each, and Theia Passive four-way floor-standing loudspeakers at $215,000 per pair — a total system price of $1,482,000 before cables. Goldmund splits preamplification across three chassis: one housing the electronics, controls, and balanced and unbalanced inputs, plus separate external power supplies for the left and right channels. The company cites complete internal symmetry, voltage regulation stages, and optimized heat dissipation as guarantees of signal integrity, and specifies total harmonic distortion of 0.0002 percent. Fit and finish includes mirrored-glass displays, metal-coated controls, hand-soldered circuit boards, military-grade alloys worked with Swiss watchmaking techniques, and the brand's slender gold-line motif. The reviewer, a two-decade veteran of audio equipment appraisal, concludes that diminishing returns set in well below six figures and that no stereo system justifies $1.5 million, arguing Goldmund sells status, wealth, and exclusivity in the manner of Rolex rather than mere hi-fi — while praising the sound as detailed, insightful, and communicative.
