Glidden Names Artifact (PPG10-16) Its 2027 Color of the Year

Glidden has selected Artifact (PPG10-16), a warm, smoky blue with gray and turquoise undertones, as its 2027 Color of the Year. The choice marks a shift from the brand's recent saturated picks: 2026's Warm Mahogany, 2025's Purple Basil, 2024's Limitless, 2023's Vining Ivory, and 2022's Guacamole. Ashley McCollum, Glidden's color marketing manager, called Artifact "the perfect 'hit reset color,'" describing it as calm, grounded, and conducive to unwinding. She noted that after Limitless, a warm beige, Glidden moved toward darker, bolder, richer hues because consumers craved color expression, and that cooler elements have since entered the undertones. Michelle Vincent, commercial design manager for Pittsburgh Paints, a sister brand sharing the Color of the Year, said the 20-member Glidden trend forecast team evaluated market materiality, including painted micro tiles and finishes, and examined fashion markets at NeoCon and High Point Market. Blue is seeing a broader interior design resurgence, with softer blues displacing sterile grays. Sherwin-Williams' 2027 forecast includes Dutch Tile Blue, Icicle, and Honorable Blue; Valspar chose Cottage Blue; WGSN & Coloro selected the bolder Luminous Blue. McCollum plans to drench a spare room in her Pittsburgh home with Artifact, while Vincent will paint the bedroom of her 7-year-old son Beau, citing the color's stability, comfort, and calm.
