Gladiatrix Group Exhibition at Embajada, San Juan

The 'Gladiatrix' exhibition at the Embajada gallery in San Juan, Puerto Rico, showcases the works of twelve female artists delving into themes of myth, monstrosity, and transformation as sources of empowerment and defiance. Featured pieces include architectural fragments by Nora Maité Nieves, Dara Birnbaum's renowned 1970s Wonder Woman video, Gyan Shrosbree's large tarp paintings, and Heather Benjamin's bold female avatars. Additionally, Raquel Sofía Moreno presents psychological figurative works, while Chaveli Sifre offers ritual masks for burning scents. María Sosa's textile, stained in blood-red with a machete, and Lulu Varona's embroidered portraits of labor leaders Teresa Angleró Sepúlveda and Rose Pesotta are also highlighted. Claudia Peña Salinas reinterprets Aztec deity Tlaloc, Naomi Rincón-Gallardo's video 'Verses of Filth' invokes Mesoamerican gods, alongside Taina Cruz's mythic figures and Gabriela Mejías Jaramillo's biomorphic ceramics and knitted designs.
