Gjenreis: Mortar-Free Brick System Debuts at 3daysofdesign

A modular construction system named Gjenreis has been created by Oslo Metropolitan University students Ariel Hammer and Åshild Limstrand, utilizing reclaimed bricks without the need for mortar. This innovative system facilitates the assembly, disassembly, and reconfiguration of walls, promoting circular construction practices. Gjenreis was showcased at the Built by Design exhibition during 3daysofdesign in Copenhagen from June 10 to 12, 2026. The exhibition highlighted bachelor projects from OsloMet that focused on material reuse and construction techniques, in partnership with various industry collaborators such as Gudbrandsdalens Uldvarefabrik and Hydro Extrusion. Other featured projects included works by Sondre H. Monsen, Ida Marie Tveitan, Erik Røseid, and several others, all stemming from the course Critical Reflection in Design Practice.
