Giulia Mazzoni Reopens Florence's Teatro Nazionale with Unamplified Piano Concert

After over forty years of abandonment, Florence's historic Teatro Nazionale reopens on July 23, 2026, with a concert by pianist Giulia Mazzoni. The restoration was led by architect Marco Casamonti and the Gruppo Archea. Mazzoni, founder of the Nuova Classica movement and the first female composer to open a season at the Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino with her original music, will perform without any amplification, relying solely on the theater's advanced acoustics. The program includes works from her albums Giocando con i Bottoni, Room 2401 (Sony Music), and YAS – Your Anima System (ADA/Warner), the latter produced by 16-time Grammy winner Thom Russo and recorded in Los Angeles, Prague, and Florence. The concert will feature videoprojections by directors and visual artists Marco Amenta, Samuele Alfani, Fabrizio Cestari, Hermes Mangialardo, Federico Monti, and Alessio Vitelli. The theater includes a bookshop-café, jazz hall, professional kitchen for dinner shows, and a retractable roof for panoramic views. Mazzoni will also perform at Rome's Auditorium Parco della Musica Ennio Morricone on November 2, 2026, and will inaugurate the FánHuā Chinese Film Festival in Florence with a musical performance.
