Giovanna Flores Debuts Spring 2027 Ready-to-Wear Collection in Brooklyn
Giovanna Flores presented her Spring 2027 ready-to-wear collection, a freeform and dreamy line that she describes as embodying a summer state of mind. A California transplant based in Brooklyn since 2015, Flores launched her own line with her Pratt graduation collection and has since consulted for brands. This year she unexpectedly became fashion’s indie It Girl after Chloë Sevigny, Ayo Edebiri, and Greta Lee wore her one-of-a-kind crafty looks. Her design process involves deconstruction and collage, with garments often in a state of becoming. Non-standard sizes allow wearers to adjust them, and some pieces can be worn front-to-back. Standout items include a long dress in Ellsworth Kelly’s primary colors (red, green, blue) with white sleeves and a draped low back, and a “skeleton” dress made from over-locked tulle slips in transparent colors. A T-shirt featured stuffed shoulder pads that let filling color seep through. Flores used lawn chair webbing for structure and decoration, discovering it can only be sewn in straight lines. Other pieces include an embellished black leather jacket with chunky ’80s-style colored gems, fishnets with crochet details, a “falling lace situation” from triangular fabric scraps, and spliced jeans and denim skirt with colorful inserts. The collection exudes sunny joyfulness and a sense of play.
