Giorgio Milani's 'Babele' at Biblioteca Teresiana Explores Language and Writing

From June 27 to September 19, 2026, the Biblioteca Teresiana in Mantua hosts the first solo exhibition in the city by Giorgio Milani (born 1946 in Piacenza), titled 'Babele'. Curated by Francesca Ferrari, Massimo Ferrari, and Claudia Tinazzi, the show is promoted by the Municipality of Mantua and the Biblioteca Teresiana. It features about seventy works, including paintings and sculptures, spanning Milani's key cycles: Torri di Gutenberg, Poetari, Babeli, and Sindoni. The venue, founded in 1780 and known for its rare book collection, becomes integral to the exhibition, resonating with Milani's focus on language, fragmentation, and reconstruction. His work operates at the intersection of sculpture, graphics, and conceptual reflection, building complex systems of signs, letters, and alphabets that evoke knowledge archives. 'Babele' serves as a central metaphor for linguistic multiplicity and the complexity of the present. The exhibition also aligns with the European Day of Jewish Culture and Festivaletteratura, reinforcing themes of writing, narration, and knowledge transmission.
