Gino Frogheri: A Sardinian Artist's Journey from Figuration to Abstraction
In a recent conversation with "L'isola dell'arte," Gino Frogheri, a prominent artist from Sardinia, discusses his 60-year artistic journey. He was born in Nuoro in 1937 and started drawing as a young boy, inspired by the comics and vehicles he encountered in his father's workshop. After being motivated by his teacher Salvatore Pirisi, Frogheri initially pursued a career as a surveyor. In the late 1960s, he became a part of Galleria Chironi 88 in Nuoro, managed by Sandrina Piras and Pasquale Sanna. A significant turning point in his career was when he began puncturing his canvases, leading to his exploration of abstraction. He created approximately 1,500 pieces, developed his iconic "forma" in 1971, and exhibited extensively. In 1999, he contributed to the establishment of Museo MAN and was awarded the Premio Francesco Ciusa in 2023.
