GHOST BARSTAIRS: Temporary Hypotheses Fills Seoul Concrete Shell Before Demolition
In a vacant building in Sinsa-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, design studio Sukchulmok collaborated with artist Kangyeon Lee to present GHOST BARSTAIRS: Temporary Hypotheses prior to its demolition. This exhibition investigates the disconnect between the building's historical significance and its uncertain future. The title's elements represent remnants of history (GHOST), new constructions (BAR), and upward movement (STAIRS). Light highlights the interaction between Sukchulmok's furniture and Lee's sculptures. A semicircular wooden booth on the ground floor serves as a focal point, while Lee’s pieces convey a sense of alienation from work. In the basement, BRBB design practice introduces self-supporting plywood installations. This project captures the evolution from the building's past to its potential future.
