Ghisellini Architetti Redesigns Public Square Madre Francesca Cabrini in Lodi with 50 Oaks

architecture-design · 2026-10-13

In Italy's lower Lodi area, Ghisellini Architetti has unveiled a revamped Public Square Madre Francesca Cabrini, named FOREST JUMP. This initiative reimagines the region's historical lowland forests, creating a public area bordered by three landscaped edges and the town hall. Spanning from north to south, a continuous Italian porphyry pathway aligns with the town hall. A grid of fifty oak trees, arranged in a 7-by-7 formation, offers shade. Visitors can navigate through flower beds, lawns, and shrubs, with amenities such as benches, drinking fountains, trash bins, and bike racks. Concrete monoliths delineate pedestrian zones from vehicle traffic. A dual-level lighting system brightens the square, while permeable surfaces manage rainwater, replenishing groundwater and channeling rainfall to an underground storage system.
