Ghetto Kids perform with Shakira and Burna Boy at World Cup final halftime show

Ugandan dance troupe Ghetto Kids performed at the 2024 FIFA World Cup final halftime show at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, sharing the stage with Colombian pop star Shakira and Nigerian musician Burna Boy. The group, founded by manager Dauda Kavuma, consists of children from humble beginnings in Kampala. Ten-year-old Sierra described the experience as "very, very, very, very, very good." The performance was viewed by millions globally. The children also met football stars Lionel Messi and Lamine Yamal. Kavuma noted that the invitation from Shakira was a dream come true, as the group had previously danced to her song "Waka Waka" on Britain's Got Talent. The Ghetto Kids gained fame after appearing in French Montana's "Unforgettable" music video (1.9 billion YouTube views) and reached finals of Britain's Got Talent (2023) and America's Got Talent (2024). Kavuma's project provides housing, food, and tuition to children in Uganda. Despite their fame, the children prioritize education, filming social media content only on weekends. Both Sierra and Josephine aspire to become doctors while continuing to dance. The group previously performed at a PSG vs. Reims match in 2023 and a documentary titled "Ghetto Kids Documentary: No Plan B" has been made about their story.
