This comes after attempts by the CDU and SPD to marginalize the party failed spectacularly. The party has also achieved a record membership number. At their 'East Congress' in June, the Greens acknowledged their historical weakness in eastern Germany and have repositioned themselves as a 'party of practical help' (Kümmererpartei), addressing issues like housing shortages and positioning themselves against the AfD. Felix Banaszak, the party's co-chair, described this as a 'fight for a bright Germany' (Kampf um das helle Deutschland).
