exhibition · 2026-09-10

This November, Gerhard Richter, the prominent German artist, will inaugurate a permanent pavilion in Doha, Qatar. The announcement was made by Qatar Museums (QM) on September 10 at the Neue Nationalgalerie in Berlin. The pavilion, crafted by Richter in collaboration with architect Annabelle Selldorf, will display vibrant patterns inspired by Richter's Abstract Painting (724-4) from 1990. Inside, visitors can expect to see three large Strip paintings, a Strip Tower sculpture, and two works from the Mirror series. Representing him at the announcement were his wife, Sabine Moritz, and daughter, Ella. Additionally, QM is organizing a significant Richter exhibition alongside the new Rubaiya Qatar quadrennial, Unruly Waters, which will debut on November 21, featuring around 60 artists, including Ibrahim Mahama, and will precede the future Art Mill Museum's opening in 2030.
