Georgia Banks Explores Fame and Authenticity at Wollongong Art Gallery

Melbourne artist Georgia Banks will showcase her exhibition 'Popular Versus Culture' at Wollongong Art Gallery from June 6 to September 6, 2026. This exhibition is a result of her research residency at The Andy Warhol Museum, where she worked alongside fellow artists Kiron Robinson and Simon Zoric, while also interacting with selected pieces from the museum's collection. Banks builds on Warhol's themes of fame, fandom, and market trends, adapting them to today's media-saturated environment. Instead of dismissing mainstream culture, she finds significance within it, illustrating how legacy, spectacle, and success have merged into comparable forms of currency in an image-driven era. Featured in the show is her piece 'I’d like to buy the world a coke' (2020), a vinyl print sized 400 × 220 cm.
