Genealogía del hueco. Capítulo Venezuela: Bonadies and Guardia at Museo de América

The exhibition 'Genealogía del hueco. Capítulo Venezuela', curated by Venezuelan artists Ángela Bonadies and Cristian Guardia, opened at the Museo de América in Madrid on June 25, 2026. It responds to the US bombing of Venezuela and the extraction of Nicolás Maduro in January 2026, as well as a major earthquake. The project engages with the museum's Venezuelan collection, exploring the 'hole' that Venezuela represents: a false paradise, a site of resource extraction without social benefit, an ideological laboratory, and a place of fragile rights and power vacuums. The installation incorporates museum pieces alongside personal archives and works by the artists and others, using humor and an artistic perspective. It features a wall of Venezuelan telenovela clips, a long partition with peepholes, and pieces displayed both in vitrines and unprotected, questioning museum conventions. The curators collaborated with museum director Andrés Gutiérrez Usillos and deputy director Beatriz Robledo Sanz, who study fakes in the collection. The show includes works referencing Antonieta Sosa and Meyer Vaisman, and features audio by Yva Las Vegass. The exhibition runs until September 27, 2026.
