Gaza Artists Persist Through War and Ceasefire, Finding Survival in Art
One year after the ceasefire in Gaza on 10 October 2025, four Palestinian artists continue to create in the midst of destruction. Asma’a Jeathni, 30, lost her father in June 2024 and her home two months later; she now leads art initiatives and produced the digital series Struggle of the Sparrows for Wasla. Jehad Jarbou, 27, who lost her father and brother on 9 November 2023, married in 2024 and currently resides in a tent with her family. Ahmed Muhanna has painted on UN aid boxes, with over 40 pieces displayed in the exhibition Gaza: Stories of Hope and Resilience. Raed Issa, a co-founder of Eltiqa Group, relocated from Gaza to Marseille in April 2025. The UN has reported more than 1,200 Palestinian fatalities since last October.
